You do not need a magic to relax and have Cyprus cuisine and traditional food. All you need is a destination, Cyprus! For your all year long time offs, vacations and special occasion Cyprus is the destination. The sun, the sea, the love in the air and all the magic from early morning to late night. In addition, all that will make your vacations unforgettable! In other words, all wrapped with our heartfelt Cypriot hospitality! Cypriot cuisine is both simple and complex being influenced by so many cultures that have passed through the centuries from the island.
Choosing to stay to one of our villas in Protaras, you will get our suggestions on where to go and try meze. A colorful highway from salad, to dips, and hot starters to a byte of taste from all the dishes!
For example, some suggestion on what plates you should try by their names:
Koupepia or Paragemosta
Makaronia tou Fournou – Pastichio

Psito sto fourno (oven roasted meat with potatoes and vegetables)

Finally, what the tavern suggest as their plate of the day! Trust them. As far as it concerns food we do eat well and know how to treat our guests with the best quality services!
Furthermore, for our vegan and vegetarian friends Cyprus cuisine has a lot of choices. The pitta with the dips and some plates that maybe prepared from the chef, would be giving you half of the tastes of what Cypriot cuisine has to give you. The thing is just to ask the chef how they have prepared their meals. Traditionally Cyprus cuisine traditional food main plates were pilaf/ bulgar, lentils and green peas. Mostly because Cypriot families were poor and used to work in the fields. These foods were their hyperfoods.
However, we do not stop at the food. There comes the fruit which during summer time is of course watermelon with halloumi cheese and of course the sweets. A different article on sweets is coming next! For now, we have a tip.
Tip for those who do not drink coffee and want to join the afternoon frappe time. One could also try the Mahalepin! Served with rose cordial, which is a syrup produced in Cyprus which is mainly used as a sweetener on desserts, such as Mahalebin or to flavour ice cream. You could also add it to cold milk. Like a milkshake. The drink is also called Triantafyllo and there is no recipe for this drink. The amount of Triantafyllo depends on how sweet you like your drink. Also, you can drink Triantafyllo with only cold icy water and it is also a lovely thirst quencher, just like lemonade-lemonada or orangeade – portokalada.
Drinks on the table could go from your favorable beer to Cypriot red / white wines or kumandaria; the sweet wine. Make sure you follow the tradition; whatever leftovers from the table/ fiesta you should take them away to eat them the next day or even feed the cats of the neighborhood you are staying. Remember that every table before even paying asks for a package to take home some food!
